If you have a problem, you may find what you need from the website links below or call one of Gretton PC Cllrs.  GPC may not be able to help directly, but we’ll do our best to liaise between different parties, to get help.  GPC will use this to publish useful information (eg road closures, flooding  etc)

Snow and Ice

Gloucestershire Highways commit to clearing the main roads through the Village, with gritting and occasionally with a snowplough. These roads are the Alderton, Gotherington and Alderton approaches.  https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/winter/gritting

For other roads in the village, GPC owns a gritter & snowplough and works with Highways and our snow warden / gritting contractor.  The contractor has a contract with Gloucestershire Highways to clear Gretton’s minor roads as necessary and when agreed with Highways. This contract is shared with Prescott village.

GPC ensures that we have sufficient stocks of grit in the roadside bins and with Gretton’s snow warden / gritting contractor.
In addition, GPC also owns a hand-gritter, which is available to borrow, if you need it to help clear the paths near your home.  It is kept at the Village Hall.

Flooding

Whilst surface water flooding problems have improved over the last few years, it still a known problem in some areas of the village and occasionally catches us out, in others.

GPC will monitor, report and drive improvements when we know of them, so please report problems to GPC and also Glos CC (see below).

Sometimes during very heavy rain even a clear drain or watercourse can be overwhelmed, but in most cases the water should subside quickly.  However, during autumn & winter, leaves and hedge trimmings can exacerbate the problem.
You can help by moving leaves away from drains and adding them to your garden waste bin or compost heap.
If you border a ditch (with riparian responsibilities – see below) then please ensure that it is kept clear and free-flowing.

GPC plan to hold stocks of sandbags which can be collected from the Village Hall and used to help with short-term problems.

This is a particularly useful website, with information on gully emptying schedules, links, and telephone numbers to report Highway flooding.

Keeping ditches clear

Where applicable (and it’s not often), you are requested to discharge your riparian obligations, ie to manage and keep clear any water-courses next to your boundaries.

Reporting a problem to Gloucestershire Highways
Highways problems can be reported easily, using the on-line facility at; FixMyStreet (gloucestershire.gov.uk)

However, Gloucestershire Highways are busy and have limited funds.  So, if it’s a major problem, please also advise GPC, so we can follow-up with Gloucestershire ​Highways and encourage closure; as part of our routine engagement with them.
