Request to extend the 30mph zone on Gotherington Road
Residents are calling on Gloucestershire Highways to extend Gretton's 30mph zone to Stanley Pontlarge. A survey of 103 residents found 98% back a lower limit and 89% have feared for their safety on the road, citing a blind bend, poor visibility and growing housing nearby.

Residents are calling on Gloucestershire County Council to extend the existing 30mph zone on Gotherington Road, so that it reaches from Gretton village to just beyond the Stanley Pontlarge turning.
The road is currently subject to the national speed limit of 60mph along this stretch, despite regular use by walkers, cyclists, horse riders and farm traffic, a blind bend and hill brow that severely restrict visibility, and a number of homes that now sit just outside the current 30mph boundary.
A community survey of 103 residents, carried out by Rebecca Pawsey on behalf of the village, found that:
- 98% support some reduction in the speed limit, with the large majority favouring 30mph over an intermediate 40mph limit
- 89% have personally feared for their own life, or someone else’s, on this stretch of road
- three in four respondents walk, cycle or ride on the road themselves, doing so on average almost 14 days a month
The full report, submitted to Gloucestershire Highways, sets out the case in detail, including resident testimony, survey data and a proposed solution: extending the current 30mph zone with associated signage, and a follow-up speed survey once in place. Gretton Parish Council has been supportive of extending the zone and is prepared to help fund the necessary signage.
